Why Many Families Choose Out-of-Network Lactation Care
Welcoming a new baby into your family is one of life’s most meaningful transitions. Feeding your baby—whether breastfeeding, pumping, combination feeding, or bottle feeding—can also be one of the most vulnerable and overwhelming parts of the early postpartum experience. Families deserve care that is thoughtful, individualized, and supportive during this time.
At Thrive Lactation & Wellness, we intentionally practice using an out-of-network care model. This allows us to provide a deeper level of support and flexibility for families during the early postpartum period.
Many parents are surprised to learn that out-of-network care often allows for a more comprehensive and personalized experience than traditional insurance-based visits.
Care That Is Never Rushed
Feeding challenges rarely fit neatly into short appointment slots. A baby’s feeding pattern may involve positioning, latch mechanics, milk supply, infant oral function, pumping strategies, and maternal comfort all at once. When visits are limited by strict time constraints, it can be difficult to address the full picture.
At Thrive, appointments are designed to allow time to observe feedings, understand your goals, answer questions, and create thoughtful care plans. Parents often leave visits feeling more confident and supported because we have had the time to truly understand their situation rather than focusing on only one issue.
Truly Individualized Care
No two babies feed the same way, and no two families have identical goals. Some parents come to Thrive because they are experiencing pain with breastfeeding, while others need support with milk supply, pumping, bottle transitions, or returning to work.
Because Thrive is not bound by insurance visit templates or strict billing limitations, care plans are developed based entirely on the needs of each family. Our goal is to meet families where they are and provide guidance that fits their baby, their lifestyle, and their feeding goals.
Continuity of Care
One of the most meaningful benefits of working with a private lactation practice is continuity. Many families begin working with Thrive during pregnancy and continue through the early postpartum months and beyond.
Over time we may support families with prenatal breastfeeding preparation, early feeding challenges, weight checks, pumping strategies, returning to work, and eventually weaning. Having the same provider throughout this journey allows for a deeper understanding of both baby and parent, which often leads to more effective and supportive care.
Flexibility for Families
The postpartum period can be unpredictable. Babies change quickly, and feeding needs evolve week by week. Out-of-network care allows families to schedule visits when they need them and receive guidance that adapts as their baby grows.
Parents often find that this flexibility reduces stress and allows them to feel more confident in their feeding decisions because support is available when questions arise.
Reimbursement May Still Be Possible
Although Thrive operates outside of insurance networks, many families are still able to receive reimbursement from their insurance providers. We provide a detailed superbill with the necessary medical codes so families can submit claims directly to their insurance company.
This approach allows families to receive comprehensive care while still exploring reimbursement options through their insurance plan.
